Our commitment
The Rocket City Lacrosse Directory is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience. We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as our baseline standard.
What we've done
- Semantic HTML — proper headings, landmarks, and lists so screen readers can navigate the page.
- Color contrast — body text and buttons use UAH Charger Blue (#00457C) on light backgrounds, and white on dark hero overlays, to maintain readable contrast ratios.
- Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements (links, form fields, buttons) are reachable with the Tab key and have visible focus states.
- Responsive design — the site reflows cleanly on phones, tablets, and desktops down to 320px width, and supports browser zoom up to 200%.
- Alt text and ARIA — decorative images are marked as such; informative graphics include descriptive alt text.
- Accessible forms — every input on our Submit a Program and Contact forms has a visible label and logical tab order.
- No motion traps — we don't use auto-playing video, flashing content, or animations that can't be paused.
Known limitations
We're an ongoing volunteer project. Some known areas we're still improving:
- PDF documents or third-party ranking widgets we link to may not be fully accessible. When we link to an external site (MaxPreps, LaxNumbers.com, USILA, WLA, a school athletics page), we cannot guarantee that site's accessibility.
- The hero illustration is a decorative background; while we have provided an accessible text heading on top of it, users who cannot load images will see only the gradient background and text.
Tips for using the site
- Zoom — use Ctrl/Cmd + + to enlarge text.
- Reader mode — most browsers offer a reader mode that strips styling for a distraction-free view of the content.
- Screen readers — the directory has been tested informally with VoiceOver (macOS/iOS) and NVDA (Windows). Landmarks: banner (top navigation), main (content), contentinfo (footer).
